Kevin Brennan MP, is working with fellow Labour MPs on the Shadow Culture, Media and Sport team to try and ensure more rights for gig workers in the digital economy such as Uber drivers who are denied sick pay, minimum wage and holiday pay.

On the Digital Economy Bill Committee, Mr Brennan and Louise Haigh MP moved the following Labour amendment to the bill:

“Employers in the digital economy where a business provides a digital service in which they act as an intermediary between labour suppliers and consumers where that service retains significant control over the service providers the labour suppliers shall be defined as employees of that business, as defined in section 230 of the Employment Rights Act 1996.”
